Faith Honors God, God Honors Faith

It was last Wednesday, middle of worship, when I saw her.

I had come into the sanctuary a few minutes prior, knowing deep in my heart someone needed a word from God, but I didn’t know who or what I needed to say to them. It was a few days ago, so I am a little hazy on how I came about this passage, but I’m pretty sure it was one of those, “Okay God, I’m going to open up my Bible and whatever the first passage I read, I’m going to believe is from you and you’ll speak to me through it.” Funny thing was, I came across a passage that MADE NO SENSE. How the heck was I supposed to share this with someone?

Okay, You’re probably curious now on what the passage was.

Go ahead and get out your Bible and a highlighter/pen, because this is GOLD.

Psalm 81:13-16

“Oh, that My people would listen to Me! Oh, that Israel would follow Me, walking in my paths!

How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon My hands would be upon their foes!

Those who hate the LORD would cringe before Him; they would be doomed forever.

But I would feed you with the finest wheat. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.”

Powerful and moving, right?

I’m totally kidding. I was actually regretting having that idea in the first place. I felt like I was back to square one trying to figure out what exactly I was supposed to share with someone.

BUT… As the service went on, I saw her. She was a few people in front of me after I had wiggled my way to the front (we have a big youth group). And as my heart tugged more and more her way, I felt deep in my heart a longing and a battle going on in her life and in her mind. I prayed for a clearer understanding of what I should pray for when all of a sudden that passage clicked with what I was feeling like I should pray over her.

She had to have some kind of enemy in her life, placing some kind of barrier from her encountering Christ. I felt inside of her a heart cry for God to speak to her, to call her by name, and to love her, but all she heard was silence. God doesn’t want that barrier, He wants communion with us. So… I gathered my feeble courage and went to pray this stretch of a prayer over her life, hoping it was what she actually needed to hear. God is faithful, so I believe it was and I know (and pray) He will redeem whatever I said that may have been off.

How many of you are in this same boat? How many of you are feeling discouraged and cut off from God, though you try time and again to connect with Him? Or how many of you just don’t really care much about God, mostly because He has “proved” that He just doesn’t care?

Well, I believe God is a God that fights for us. He is going to go at war against your enemies. They don’t stand a chance against Him. And because of this, especially when you strive to honor God, obey Him, and live by faith, you will receive a blessing. You will receive satisfaction. Only God is able to do this in your life.

I read this verse earlier today that said, “Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and He will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.” (Acts 3:20).

Don’t replace God for substatutes. They won’t give you what you desperately desire. Seek Christ, and don’t give up. When the time is right, you will reap a harvest.

Be blessed.
